U12 Callan Alive Tournament – Sunday 3rd August 2014

Graigue Ballycallan U12 Team played 2 games in the Callan Alive Tournament on Sunday 3rd Aug.
Their first game was against Thomastown and our lads getting off to a flyer with 3 well taken scores from Oisín Egan but to their credit Thomastown fought their way back into the game and took the lead with 5 mins to the break. Then the turning point in the game came when a lack in concentration from our full back line let a Thomastown corner forward in for a soft goal just on halftime.

Unfortunately, this big score created a lead which our lads to their credit could not claw back, and Thomastown held out on a score line of 1-11 to 9 pts.
Oisín Egan, Tommy Docherty, Jack Walton and Scott Lawlor showed best in the 30 mins of hurling.
The second game proved to be a classic against old rivals Dunnamaggin. The standard of hurling stepped
up a notch by our lads with the workrate from defence to forward line first class and they created some class scores with great link-up play. The half time score was 1-3 to 6 and all to play for in the second half.
This game ebbed and flowed for the next 15 mins with both sides taking some fantastic scores from
open play. In the end, the teams finished level on a scoreline of 1-9 a-piece with extra time needed.
This was where our boys raised the bar again and showed some unbeleiveable character and grit
to outfight their opponents on all corners of the pitch and seal victory with a scoreline of 1-14 to 1-12.
Despite this classic encounter this was the end of the road for our boys as Thomastown went on to
beat Dunnamaggin by 2 pts and topped the group and also went on to beat Danesfort in the Final.
So, overall, the mentors were happy with their lot on the day and only for a “sleepy” 10 min spell
in their first game where they let the game slip, they certainly would have deserved a crack at the title.
Well done to everbody and we’ll all look forward to the next series of Go Games coming up in the
next week .
