U-16 girls win league title!

Congratulations to our u-16 camogie team who have won the roinn B league final. photo

The match took place against Danesfort in Bennettsbridge on Wednesday 23rd July on a very warm evening. The teams both fought hard from the throw in and were level at 2 points each for a reasonable part of the half. A few missed scores that fell to the Danesfort goalie’s hand meant the scoreboard did not reflect the trojan work put in by the girls. Unfortunately a Danesfort goal slipped in past the backs but no one gave up. St. Brigid’s scored a further 2 points thanks to accuracy from Eadaoin Murphy and Laoise Prendiville and brilliant passing up both wings. At the half time whistle the girls were down by just 2 points. The score was 0-4 to 1-3 to the opposition.
The second half brought with it a power surge from the girls. The first score they obtained was a well taken goal from Eadoain Murphy and this certainty gave the girls a boost as from there they pushed on and never looked back. Every player put in 100% and each held their position well. Great defending from the backs, particularly from Eimear Keoghan at centre back who held the fort, meant that the oppositon only scored 2-01 in the second half. 3 super points, one after the other, from Leah Lanigan ensured the girls kept going and Laoise Prendiville found the net after some great passing from the back line up the field. 2 more goals were conceeded before the end of the game but the girls determination and hard work helped them to pull off a superb win and in the end they won by 4 points. Full time score was 2-11 to 3-04.
The girls proved to themselves and to the other teams that they will be a strong presence in the championship and hopefully they will have a county title in their pockets come the middle of September!
