Thursday the 18th of October in Mooncoin, under lights, was the unusual setting and venue for this fixture. After days of trying to find a suitable venue Mooncoin came up trumps and hosted the final. In ideal surrounds Mooncoin was in splendid condition and the opportunity to hurl under lights was welcomed by all the girls.
Last Saturday morning 6th October 2018, in a sun drenched Bennettsbridge, St. Brigid’s defied all the odds to beat Thomastown and be crowned U16 Roinn A Champions. It was a remarkable achievement for a team who competed in Roinn B last year.
On Saturday evening last (22nd September) in Freshford, St. Brigid’s took on Dicksboro in the Roinn A U14 County Final. This was the first meeting between the two teams since the Féile Final back in April where Dicksboro came out on top 4-8 to 3-2. Both teams were undefeated in the League Championship coming into this game and had enjoyed big wins in their semi-finals, Dicksboro beat Emeralds 3-15 to 1-5 and St. Brigid’s saw off Glenmore on a scoreline of 6-15 to 1-4.
Our U14s travelled to Hugginstown on Saturday last 16th September to face Glenmore in the Roinn A Semi Final. Our girls made a promising start to this match and hard work from our midfield meant a good supply of ball into the forward line which started to reap dividends. At half time they held a strong lead but more hard work was needed in the second half to build on this. From numbers 1-24 this team had leaders all over the pitch and played with great heart and determination to qualify for a well earned spot in the Roinn A Final! Read more
Our U12s have now finished up after a busy year. This team showed great skill and determination and gave some brilliant performances throughout the year. We started off with a few games of blitzes where the girls were often tested against tough opposition but always played to the end and as a team performed well. After our initial round of blitzes we moved on to our League games. The girls really enjoyed these matches and some courageous displays were often matched with some great results! The tackling and team work continued to improve throughout the year and we are all very proud of how these girls developed over the year. Well done to all for the hard work and brilliant team displays, these girls will no doubt be future stars for St. Brigid’s Camogie Club! St. Brigid’s Abú!
Another successful morning was had on Saturday 16th September for this great bunch of Under 10 girls. The girls ended up winning all their matches against Thomastown and two teams from Mooncoin. A lovely way to end our blitz season on a high note. We’ve had a great summer with this lovely bunch of young girls. Watch out for their names in the future, you heard it here first!
Well done to our four club girls, Claire Doheny, Moya O’Brien, Lauren Ronan and Lauren East who played for Kilkenny on Saturday the 1st of September in the Orla McDonagh U14 Tipperary Blitz. Our girls participated in a blitz in Palmerstown on Saturday morning last 25th August. They had a very successful morning with wins over two Dicksboro teams and Ballyhale only losing one match to Tullaroan.
