Intermediate camogie league vs St. Anne’s 24/4/16

Well done to our Intermediate Camogie team who won the first round of the league last Sunday 24th April. They beat St. Anne’s, Johnstown, in Kilmanagh after leading on the scoreboard throughout the game.

The girls had possession from the throw-in and kicked off the scoring after two minutes with a lovely goal and point from Eimear Keoghan in quick succession.
The St. Brigid’s girls controlled the game for the first half, scoring 1-8 before St. Anne’s found their feet. The backs held strong and hardly gave Johnstown an inch with great play-making coming from the half lines. Sarah Dunphy was left free in the full back line as the opposition brought in a sweeper system. This meant the visitors had very few scoring chances and slotted over their first point after 25 minutes with their second coming soon after. Bronagh Neary replied with the second goal of the game to finish the first half off in style. Half time score 2-8 to 2 points.

Again, from the throw-in for the second half the girls dominated the game and scoreboard. Trojan work from the midfield and half forward lines meant they accumulated another 2-06 before St. Anne’s scored, both goals coming from Bronagh and points coming from Marie Doheny, Aisling Dunphy and Eadaoin Murphy. The opposition got a goal after nineteen minutes from a rebound shot and followed with a point soon after. Lena Butler who was brought on to replace Marie Doheny, replied with the final point of the game which left the final score at 4-15 to 1-03.
