Intermediate camogie vs Paulstown 1/8/17

Our Intermediates took on Paulstown last Tuesday night, 1st August, in Kilmanagh in the 3rd round of the Championship. St. Brigid’s had the ideal start to a game with Kym Ryan rattling the back of the net just one minute after the throw-in after the ball was fed in from Aisling Dunphy from midfield.

Paulstown answered this with a point of their own from play taken from half forward. The puck out was worked up from our half backs to the full forward line where Marie Doheny latched on to a breaking ball and scored the second goal of the game. Paulstown replied with their own lucky goal after the ball was lobbed into the square. The girls went on to score a further 1-4 unanswered in the next ten minutes, the goal coming from sharpshooter Bronagh Neary, but then Paulstown got a burst of energy and dominated the latter twelve minutes of the half scoring their own 1-4. Eimear Keoghan put over a free in the 31st minute which left the score at 3-5 to 2-5 at half time.
Paulstown were the quicker team off the mark in the second half and scored three points before Eimear converted a free in the 11th minute. Soon after, Aisling Dunphy scored a magnificent point from the sideline putting the girls back ahead by two. Unfortunately, from here on, the Paulstown sweeper system had a serious effect on the game and they went on to score a further 2-2 which made it difficult for the St. Brigid’s girls to claw back. The backs even though under serious pressure held their ground but it wasn’t to be. Eimear finished the girls scoring with a converted free in the 29th minute but Paulstown sealed the deal with a point in injury time. Final score was 4-11 to 3-8 to Paulstown.
